The Savoy stands proudly on the north bank of the River Thames, perfectly located in the heart of London. Built 130 years ago, this Grade II listed building was the first purpose-built deluxe hotel in London, setting new standards for luxury, comfort and service. Today, The Savoy, managed by internationally acclaimed global chain, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, remains one of the most famous hotels in the world.

As a 5-star hotel, the team at The Savoy recognised the importance of exceptional mobile connectivity from all the UK mobile networks to support guests, visitors and event organisers. Tim Clough, Director of IT commented:

“We want all of our guests to be able to stay connected, wherever they are in the hotel, especially as so many people use social media to share their experiences, be it for social or business reasons. Our guests expect to connect wherever they are, and from whatever device they have in their hands.”

“We have chosen to partner with WIG to complete coverage within the hotel, ensuring that our guests will stay connected and have a seamless mobile connectivity experience throughout the building. As a result, our guests can now make calls in places where they have not been able to do so historically.

The hotel’s major restoration programme and listed status created several design challenges including extensive use of a delicate gold leaf decoration internally throughout the hotel. Working closely with The Savoy team our expert engineers created a bespoke, neutral host solution that was designed and successfully installed during the hotels peak summer season.

The future-proofed solution that WIG has implemented for The Savoy Hotel, now delivers 2G, 3G and 4G coverage and will also support emerging technologies such as 5G over time.
